Semperit Group Position regarding REACH
On June 1st 2007 REACH came into force.
REACH: stands for Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of CHemicals.
The aim of this regulation is:
- To have an uniform regulation for the EU.
- To enlarge the knowledge about chemical substances and their uses.
- To place a greater responsibility on the industry to manage the risks that chemicals may pose to the health and environment.
- Industry has to be aware of the use of its products and information has to be transferred from producer all the way to the enduser and back again.
Registration therefore has to be done for every chemical substance, which is produced in or imported into the EU in quantities larger than 1 ton/year and per producer/importer.
The authority for registration is the European Chemical Agency in Helsinki.
In a registration dossier the producer/importer has to describe and identify the risks linked with the substance.
Semperit supports the objective of REACH, which is in accordance with our own commitment to ensure responsible production, use and handling of the products we manufacture.
Preregistation is a requirement for use of chemical substances during the transition period for the subsequent registration of them.
As Semperit is a downstream user it is a key priority of us to ensure that all chemical substances in use will be preregistered.
We are in close cooperation with national and EU-platforms, which give recommendations for an agreed action to conform to REACH-instructions. This includes coordination with our customers and suppliers to get all required information of the chemical substances used in our products.
